Capital Punishment

This has always been a really controversial topic and as I'm currently studying this in RS, I thought I would bring it up.

Are you against or for capital punishment? I'm completely against it- I don't think there is any crime that should be treated with killing the criminal because taking a life is not a matter that you can hand over to justice, especially because some people who are completely innocent are found guilty. Although in the UK it's not used, capital punishment is still used in other countries, including some states in the US. I find this shocking, I can't believe that it's considered because you can't use murder against murder- it's like Ghandi said, "An eye for an eye, and the world will soon be blind"

Well I think a murderer should be given an appropriate sentence and then releaced.

And if they commit anymore serious crimes they should be put to death.

That way they get a second chance and if they want to waste that second chance then they cant say we didn't give them a chance.

That's a pretty good idea, but then you can't really put someone's life down to chances, well at least I don't think so. Even life imprisonment seems just as bad as capital punishment because their whole life will still be taken away- it's a really difficult issue, there's just no right way to do it :S

I think instead of death, the punishment for murder and other equally serious crimes should be life imprisonment with no possibility of parole.

Why should someone who has taken another person's life be allowed to enjoy one of their own?

I'm a firm believer in people changing so I think parole is necessary- just because one life may have ended, doesn't mean someone else's should. I think every single person is better than their worst act and I'm not condoning crimes in any way, I just think that we shouldn't be as cruel as them by taking their life and I think even life imprisonment (without parole) will do just that really.

im not quite understanding capital punishment, but.. in the U.K you can get arrested for fighting back against a burgular
