Moderators to ban users.

Would make everything a lot easier, as shown by events today.

I understand it's a big responsibility so maybe mods should be able to give a maximum 3 day ban (if possible?).

Just seems fairly strange that they can't.

i think it would be a bad decision as you may have another idiot mod ???

i suggest think carefully on who you let become mod and letting them have permission to ban users could be fatal.

I don't think it's really that necessary- yes when there are spam attacks and no admins, it gets difficult, but I think it's something that one can handle. It would undermine somewhat the authority of the admin, so it's a bit pointless in my opinion. You're not always going to find an admin on the forum no, but the same goes with moderators too.

I'm just worried that if there's a major spam attack, then they could be posting anything and it could be many hours before it's sorted.

Yeah it's a good idea =] I just don't think it's hugely necessary, it would make life easier though

I'm not sure if it's possible, but maybe mods could only ban up to 3 days, and it could be overturned by an admin if thought incorrect.

There used to be a moderator control panel, at the bottom of the forum. It was similar to the administrator control panel, but had limited options. Moderators couldn't ban users, but they could limit what they could do (like post).

You cant on BB2 and I am 99% sure there is no why of doing it.

It is possible on BB3 however, but the forums on BB2 :P

Its possible to do it on pbpBB2 but its not the same as version 3. I may bring this back but I think I agree that letting mods ban users is a bad idea. As I think that power needs to be left with the admins.

I think it should be given to mods that are trusted with both of the admins consent. I agree that it's risky, giving mods power - but for some responsible mods then what happens when we're both not on?
