Stiliyan Petrov believes the frustration at picking up a point in a tough derby clash just goes to show the progression Villa have made under Martin O'Neill.

The Villa skipper also insisted it was important to remember a draw was by no means a disaster in the cauldron of Molineux.

He told AVTV: "We were frustrated to concede so soon after scoring. We know it's important to keep hold of the ball straight after we score to settle our nerves but these things can happen in football.

"I think a few seasons ago we would have lost that game. But we don't do that now.

"We held on and got the point. It is a good point. At the end of the season, these points make a difference.

"You have difficult and tight games throughout the season and it's important to get through with something from them.

"Overall, I think it was a very hard game - and that's what we expected. But we didn't start in the way we should have.

"In the first half, we just weren't there. We were on the back foot, we were defending, we didn't create much other than Gabby's chance in the first few minutes.

"We just didn't play well but I thought it was a different story after the break. We pushed forward, we pressed them, we created more chances and it paid off with the goal.

"Unfortunately they scored not long after us. At the end of the day, we should remember we didn't lose the game."
