Do you think it would be wise to update the rules?

I would like to listen to member's ideas and opinions.

My Main Concerns are:

> To set "Can" and "Can't" time limits for Bumping Topics, so members will be less confused when bumping their topics.

> To add a new rule - No Bumping topics that are over 3 Weeks old.

> To add another new rule - Speak in standard english, no text speech.

Any thoughts or ideas? I'd like to outline the concerns and possible flaws in our current rules.

Cheers

Good idea, it always used to be 6 hours (?), should be this again.

> To add a new rule - No Bumping topics that are over 3 Weeks old.

Yep, 3 months is about right, maybe slightly longer (as there aren't a huge amount of topics being made anyway).

> To add another new rule - Speak in standard english, no text speech.

Don't think this would really work as pretty much everyone uses it.  Maybe recommend writing in good english as far as possible, but making a rule against it will be hard.

Otherwise, the current rules are good.

I agree about everything you've said, but I do think the standard thing is important because there are quite a lot of people in the swapitshop sections who use MSN speech, which is annoying - because this is a forum not a chatroom.

I agree 3 weeks is a bit long in my opinion but it's up to you, I think 2 weeks might be better but I suppose at the current state of the forum, it might be alright.

The forum is meant to be fun so I don't think it's fair to ask members to speak standard English and use a rule to enforce it. I personally prefer proper English and I know that when looking for new mods, that's something we look for but you can't expect it from everyone.

Otherwise great rules The double posting rule needs to be added though!

Ah yes, I almost forgot about the double posting rule. That needs to be ironed out a bit and set in stone.

So at the moment, it would be;

> You can bump topics, but you must have been the last poster to post on that topic for at least 6 hours. No less.

> You can't post in a topic that hasn't been posted in for more than 16 Days.

> Don't double post.

Sounds good And I'm not sure about making it a rule, but we need to encourage members to make topics in the right section.

How about 'txt spk' is just discouraged; not given a rule against it?

Well you're never going to stop people from saying "lol" or "btw", but maybe a warning should/could be given for excessive use?

No that's going a bit far! Even I use "lol" and "btw" a lot! It's like telling people not abbreviate because it's not formal enough!

I think that things like "rofl" and "lol" should stay, because they're like emoicons - :P
